Squeeze Cementing | What is Squeeze Cementing?

Assignment Squeeze Cementing

Cement Job Design:

After evaluating the casing, you have determined that a microannulus has formed, and a perforation squeeze must be performed.

About this job:

  • The casing is perforated from 7314′ to 7350′.
  • A bridge plug is set at 7356′.
  • A packer is set at 7200′.
  • Neat Class G cement is used (15.8 ppg) to squeeze into the perforations.
  • The casing is 7″ 20 ppf J-55 ( 0.0405 \tfrac{bbl}{ft}).
  • The packer is run on 2-7/8 6.5 ppf tubing (0.00579 \tfrac{bbl}{ft}).
  • Assume a 50% excess in volume.

Calculate:

  1. The volume of cement needed.
  2. Assuming the cement was displaced by 39 bbl of displacement fluid, what was the total amount of cement placed behind the casing?
Pressure chart, Cement Job Design, Primary Cementing

Solution

  1. Using the table, 7″ 20 ppf casing is 0.0405 \tfrac{bbl}{ft}. The top packer is at 7200, and the bottom bridge plug is at 7356, for a total of 7356- 7200 = 156\ ft \times 0.0405\tfrac{bbl}{ft} = 6.32\ bbl \times 1.6 = 10.1\ bbl of cement.
  2. The tubing has a volume of 0.00579\ \times 7200\ ft = 41.6\ bbl, of which 38 bbl was displacement fluid. Therefore, there was 41.6\ -\ 39\ =\ 2.6\ bbl of cement in the tubing. The casing itself contained 6.32 bbl of cement, for a total of 6.32\ +\ 2.6\ =\ 8.92\ bbl of cement not in the formation. The total pumped was 10.1 bbl, so 10.1\ -\ 8.92\ =\ 1.2\ bbl of cement was placed behind the casing.
