Cement Additives in Drilling

Strengthening Agents

Fibrous materials added to cement slurries in concentrations between 0.15% and 0.5% BWOC can increase the cements resistance to stresses from perforating, hydraulic fracturing, and formation movement over time. By transmitting local stresses more evenly throughout the cement matrix, these strengtheners can maintain a competent cement sheath around the casing. Examples include nylon fibers (up to 1 inch in length), metallic microribbons, and particulated rubber.
